Doubt vs Me
"In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."
Ephesians 6:16
Doubt: How will you know God did such and such?
Me: It is written in the Scriptures such and such.
Doubt: How will you know God still does such and such?
Me: It is written in the Scriptures that it is so.
Doubt: How will you know God will continue to do such and such?
Me: I don’t know.
Doubt: Hah! There! How then can you rely on God?
Me: The Scripture says God is never-changing and faithful. The fact I claim ignorance does not mean he will not continue to do such and such. I claim ignorance because I don’t know what will happen in the future.
Doubt: Are you then not doubting the future?
Me: Doubt what will take place in the future, yes. But doubt God? No.
Doubt: Very well then. God did such in your life before, yes?
Me: Yes.
Doubt: How will you know God will continue to do that thing again in your life?
Me: I don’t know the future. I trust in God’s faithfulness that He will continue to do so.
Doubt: That is so arbitrary! God may or may not do it.
Me: But that would contradict what it means to be faithful. Even if he does not, He will do something else.
Doubt: Hah! There! You are doubting God will repeat what has been done in your life!
Me: Yes, God may or may not repeat what he has done in my life, for He is not restricted to only one way. Or else, he would not be God because he would be restricted by some higher law that demands repetition. But the key is that He has a plan when He does or does not do something. He is God, let His will be done. Also, the Scriptures testify that God will work things for the good of those who love Him.
